‘Indian Stories – Australian Screens’, the International Conference and Film Festival for Indian cinema held by the Centre for Communication, Politics and Culture at RMIT University, Melbourne came to a close on 4th December evening. The final session closed the festival with spectacular cultural performances, short and feature length film screenings, and warm goodbyes.
Over the past four days, ‘Indian Stories – Australian Screens’ presented an array of prominent keynote speakers from both academic and filmmaking backgrounds, providing a platform for dynamic discussion. 24 films were screened during the festival, including features, shorts, experimental and documentaries, which were well received by audiences. Filmmakers presented their work and engaged in Q and A’s for feedback.
Running for the first time, this event has a unique focus on academic discussions on Indian cinema and aims to provide a two-way understanding of India in Australia. Curated by Dr. Vikrant Kishore, ‘Indian Stories- Australian Screens’ will be held annually to open new avenues of collaboration, discussion and societal engagement.
